the freaks come out at night
I remember slowly light returning at first, then movement, and eventually the murmuring of sound.
I could vaguely hear sounds and see light, but none of it made sense...only when I slowly turned to my left and saw Ian, the Gary Fisher/Subaru mechanic standing next to me and looking back with an equally dumbfounded look that I realized what had happened underneath that aluminum awning in the back corner of the team trailer.
We had blown a Stans'ed tire off the rim with a high powered compressor. The subsequent shock wave of compressed air and liquid latex was so intense that the explosion was beyond the concept of comprehension...its only after the return of sight and sound that one can wrap their head around it all.
I'm fairly certain everyone in the venue stopped what they were doing when the explosion went off, and it was loudest thing I've ever experienced, until I blew a tire off the rim in the garage 10 minutes ago.

At least it was in your garage and not in the house like I did!
One year at Big Bear Matt Shriver was stans'ing a tire, it seated fine and then Matt went to spin the wheel next to his ear to listen for leaks...the tire blew off the rim and Matt's head disappeared in a cloud of stans. It was damn loud and I was 20 feet away.
What Potts...What did you say? Still can't hear out of that ear. I blew one up 30 minutes before Iron Horse start in my living room. Ruined the DVD player. Stan's is the way to go, but you run the risk of never hearing again and being covered in latex.
mmmm, latex. IAN
