Adding value

This thing...it waxes and wanes.

In terms of quality and frequency. In terms of depth, disclosure, and diversity.

Last weekend was a race I always enjoy attending, the Bump N Grind in Birmingham, Alabama. Having missed the past two editions, I started to think "why would I go back?". Its not the competitive nature of it, the travel isn't that exciting, and there's something to be said for doing new things.

Then someone mentioned, and said it succinctly, that those races in the South (or wherever your roots are) are like reunions. People that you'll likely not see at any other time or for any other reason will be at these events.

Once a year, we put the band back together for a Saturday jaunt in the woods followed by raising forks and likely a few glasses afterwards...then repeat on Sunday. So..I end up torn: repeat and re-visit the reunion, or stay home, ground, and start the new path here, at home. You can't always live in the past, but the past is the path to the future, no?

Either way, it leads me to something that I'd like for you to support, if you feel compelled to do so.

There too many tragedies in the world, more than I care to acknowledge or become invested in, and we only have our own horizons of challenge to relate to, but supporting Mike Janelle's infant son and wife is one I believe in. I've wasted far more by dropping out of, or attending, terrible races, and Mike's passion for each moment that life gifted him with is inspiration enough to endorse this cause.

More than 1000 visitors a day stumble across this site. If only a fraction support LiveLikeMike.org, they would make an enormous impact on his family...and if Mike's legacy does nothing more than inspire you to embrace both the old experiences of your life, as well as impact the new ones to come, I think you've come out ahead for knowing about Mike and how his path can compliment yours.

Last Fall, we were fortunate enough to embrace Mike and his partner Nat at the 24 Hours of Moab. Thanks Mike, those battles were character builders and you'll continue to inspire and challenge us to give, and get, all that life as to offer. Its far too short for us to recognize sometimes.
