Overkill
There are a couple of things I don't understand about the Croc Trophy, a 700 mile dusty dirt road mtb race across the Aussie Outback....
Why are these guys riding full-on mountain bikes with big knobbies, disc brakes, and 4" travel bikes? Heck, in 80% of the single track XC mountain bike races we do, I run Oriflammes....so why aren't these guys, who are riding hours and hours upon hours of dirt roads using the lowest rolling resistance equipment out there?
You know, something with a little horsepower and style behind it? Maybe even pop a wheelie at the finish?

From the Croc Trophy 2007 website...
"Every participant has to use a mountain bike for the entire track."
But then again...it does not say anything about tire size.
I am betting most run fatties for comfort and peace of mind when you start talking flat tire.
I also saw that in stage 1 the winner/GC leader Mauro Bettin was using a rigid fork. Following days front shock. So I guess you can swap bikes, parts etc., as needed on a given stage too.
Fatties ride it better!!! Grandpa's Hog!!! There is nothing like a wild old man!! Annette
